Travel Thursday: A World Tour Through My 16 August Reads

Hello, fellow travelers and book lovers!
For this week’s Travel Thursday, we’re embarking on a different kind of journey. No passports, no packing, and no flight delays—just the pure magic of escaping into another world between the pages of a book. This August, I took 16 incredible trips, from quirky small towns and high-stakes corporate boardrooms to sun-drenched Sicilian villas and haunted summer camps.
So, grab your favorite beverage, get cozy, and let’s revisit the destinations that made my August reading month unforgettable. I’ll be your travel guide, breaking down the trips by star rating.
The 5-Star, First-Class Destinations (Absolute Must-Reads!)
These were the unforgettable, life-changing trips that I’ll be recommending for years to come. If you read anything from this list, make it one of these.
- Marked by Lexxi James: A second-chance journey eight years in the making. This trip takes you into the world of an ex-Army sniper and the woman he never forgot. It’s a powerful, emotional excursion into the idea that some connections can survive time, distance, and danger. A truly heart-stopping destination.
- Till Summer Do Us Part by Meghan Quinn: Pack your bags for the most chaotic and hilarious destination: a marriage counseling retreat… with a fake husband. This trip was an absolute blast, filled with laugh-out-loud moments, witty banter, and the surprisingly sweet journey of two strangers pretending to be in love.
- Wildly Inappropriate by Emma Kate: A trip to a shared summer house with your brother’s best friend—and your sworn enemy. The sparks fly in this enemies-to-lovers romance, turning a journey of mutual irritation into a fiery and passionate adventure. A perfect trip for anyone who loves witty banter and undeniable chemistry.
- When Stars Align by Melissa de la Cruz: This was a trip back in time to the glittering, tumultuous world of Hollywood teen stardom. Following three former best friends as they navigate the wreckage of their past, this journey is a poignant exploration of fame, betrayal, and the powerful, enduring bonds of friendship.
- The Deception (Filthy Rich Americans #3) by Nikki Sloane: The final, explosive destination in a dark and twisted trilogy. This journey is a masterclass in high-stakes power plays and deception. Just when you think you know the rules of the game, everything changes. A thrilling and satisfying conclusion to an addictive series.
- The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams: A delightful trip from the friend-zone straight into the end zone. This fake-dating sports romance was pure sunshine. It’s a heartwarming, funny, and swoon-worthy journey that proves sometimes the greatest adventure is falling for the person who was there all along.
The 4-Star, Highly Recommended Excursions
These were fantastic trips that I thoroughly enjoyed and would happily take again. Well worth the ticket price!
- Wild Thing by Cassie Ann L. Miller: A spontaneous one-night-stand leads to a trip home where your mystery man is now your roommate—and your brother’s best friend. A classic journey of forbidden romance in a quirky small town.
- Summer of ’99 by J.L. Hyde: A chilling trip back to the abandoned Camp Shady Oaks, the site of a decades-old unsolved mystery. This thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat as you uncover secrets that were meant to stay buried.
- Buckled in Barbwire by Harloe Rae: This slow-burn journey takes you to a rustic ranch empire where a broody heir and a sunny cowgirl enter a marriage of convenience. A perfect trip for lovers of enemies-to-lovers tension and western romance.
- The Initiation & The Obsession (Filthy Rich Americans #1 & #2) by Nikki Sloane: The first two legs of the journey into the ruthless world of the Hale family. These dark romances are a thrilling, high-stakes exploration of power, desire, and manipulation that will leave you breathless for the final destination.
- The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo: A deep, immersive journey into the heart of a family over decades. This story explores the complex bonds between four sisters and their parents, navigating infidelity, secrets, and the transcendent moments of joy that hold a family together.
- The Rule Book (The Cheat Sheet Series #2) by Sarah Adams: A trip to Vegas with your college ex results in an unexpected marriage! This second-chance sports romance is a fun, fiery journey where old flames discover that sometimes, breaking the rules is the only way to win.
Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood: A picturesque trip to a destination wedding in Taormina, Sicily. This journey explores the forbidden, cliché-to-plot-twist romance between a grad student and her older brother’s best friend.
The 3-Star, A Quick Weekend Getaway
Sometimes a trip is pleasant but doesn’t quite change your life, and that’s okay! These were enjoyable, quick getaways that were sweet but didn’t leave a lasting impression.
- Dreamland by Nicholas Sparks: A trip to St. Pete’s Beach, Florida, that weaves together two stories—one of a budding romance between two musicians and another of a mother fleeing abuse. While I usually love a trip with Nicholas Sparks, this one just didn’t hold my attention like his past journeys.
- Puck Buddy by Jessie Halston: This was a quick trip to campus for a fake-dating scenario with the university hockey captain. It was a sweet and fast-paced excursion, but the story ultimately fell a little flat for me.
And that’s a wrap on my August travels! It was a month filled with passion, mystery, and heartfelt connections. What amazing places have you “traveled” to through books this month? Share your favorite recent reads in the comments below!
