Shelfie Saturday: The Book That Accidentally Cured My Reading Slump

Happy Shelfie Saturday.

So, my plan for today was to write a whole post about my ‘no-pressure plan’ to get back into reading by re-listening to an old favorite.

Well, a funny thing happened. I went to do just that, and my Audible account suggested Promise Me Forever by Layla Hagen. This is the first book in the Maxwell Brothers Series. I’d never heard of it, but on a whim, I clicked…

…and I am hooked.

I’m not even finished with the first book yet, but I am devouring it. The reading slump is officially, accidentally, and gloriously over. I’m also fighting off a nasty sinus/ear infection, and this story is the only thing keeping my mind off of it. You know a book is good when it can beat a head cold.

I’m not going to do a full, deep-dive review since I’m not done, but here’s the ‘fast version’ of why this book worked when nothing else did:

  • It Was a Perfect “Escape”: because it’s a sweet romance with some spice 🌶️
  • The Characters Were: easy to get invested in.
  • The Vibe Was Just Right: because it started out perfectly sweet and innocent and then turned up the heat!

It’s the best feeling in the world to accidentally find a new series you love.

What’s the last book that totally pulled you out of a reading slump? I’m going to need a new one as soon as I finish this! Let me know in the comments! 👇
