Hump-Day Hack: How to Be Productive When Your Brain is Buffering

If you’ve ever opened your laptop only to stare at the screen and forget why you’re there, you’ve experienced the ‘Brain Buffer.’

For me lately, it’s been a mix of nine weeks in a medical boot and a brand-new diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and POTS. Some days, my brain feels like a spinning loading icon. I’m ‘all over the place,’ and the to-do list feels like a mountain I can’t even see the top of, let alone climb.

But here is the Hump-Day Hack that keeps my business running even when I’m in a fog: The Brain Buffer System.

1. The ‘Unfiltered’ Dump

Don’t try to organize. Grab a notebook (or your phone) and just write down every single thing bothering you. ‘Change lightbulb,’ ‘Email client,’ ‘Find out what POTS means.’ Get it out of your head and onto the paper.

2. The ‘Seated’ Filter

Since I’m non-weight bearing and dealing with dizziness, I look at my list and highlight only what I can do from my ‘Command Center’ (the couch). If it requires standing, it’s a ‘Plastic Ball’—it can bounce until later.

3. The ‘Rule of Three’

When your brain is buffering, you cannot handle a list of ten. Pick three. Just three. If you get those done, you’ve won the day.

The Low-Energy Truth: This isn’t just for people with chronic illness. This is for the empty-nester who is overwhelmed, the busy professional, and the tired soul. Productivity isn’t about doing more; it’s about doing what matters without breaking your spirit.

What is one thing on your ‘Buffer’ list today that you can give yourself permission to move to Friday? Let’s invoke the Grace Clause together.
