The Seated System: How to Run a Home (and a Life) From the Couch
Eleven weeks. That is exactly how long I’ve been propped up on this couch in a medical boot. When you are non-weight bearing for 77 days, you learn very quickly that if you don’t have a system to manage the house from your seat, things get ‘all over the place’ fast.
Between the recovery and my brand-new ‘Plot Twist’—navigating Fibromyalgia and POTS—my brain is often in a state of ‘buffering.’ I’ve had to become the Director of my home from the ‘Command Center’ (aka the right side of my couch).
My Old-School Secret
I’ll be honest: despite running a digital brand, I am a pen-and-paper girl at heart. There is something about the physical act of scratching a task off a list that makes my brain feel more grounded, especially when the Fibro-fog is rolling in. My planner is my lifeline for:
- The Daily Brain Dump: Getting the ‘noise’ out of my head and onto the page.
- Symptom Tracking: Keeping a log for my doctors so I don’t forget the details when I’m dizzy.
- Family Coordination: Writing down the ‘Ask’ for my husband and daughters so I don’t have to repeat myself from across the room.
The Digital Alternative
While I love the feel of paper, I know many of you live on your phones and/or tablets. That’s exactly why I created the Digital Planner in my shop. It’s the digital twin to the systems I use every day. It’s designed for the person who wants that same level of organization without the pile of notebooks.
Efficiency isn’t about how many steps you take; it’s about how well you manage the steps you can take. Whether you’re analog or digital, the goal is the same: Manage your energy, not just your time. Productivity doesn’t require standing up; it just requires a plan.
